@ Gagan – Even if you invest in physical form you will get the income tax rebate.
However, the interest itself is not tax free. It’s only the Rs. 20,000 you get reduced from your taxable salary that helps save tax.
Where are you put up ? We can send our guys and get it done for you.

Feel free to write to me @ iikazi81@gmail.com to call me @ +91-9870-147-154.

The maximum investment on which you can avail tax benefit is Rs 20K. This 20K is over and above Rs 1 Lakh under section 80(C)

Reply

Satyam November 23, 2010 at 4:29 pm

L&T Infrastructure bonds issue got oversubscribed. The actual issue was for 200 Crore and it got subscriptions for around 250 Crores. The company has got permissions from SEBI to retain an excess of Rs 500 Crore (Total of 700 Crore) if the company wants. So everyone who has applied for the issue would get bonds.

Those who haven’t applied for infrastructure bonds can wait for second phase of the issue which may come up in early next year as per L&T. We may also see LIC infra bonds in near future.

The bonds can be seen in ledger (your sharekhan account). But for availing tax benefit, a copy of allotment letter is required. L&T (its agent) has not sent any allotment letter or printed intimation till date. Did you get any such thing?

P S,
I usually take printout to claim my tax deduction. The printout is legal document.
The other thing to do is that most of the DMAT account brokers (ICICI direct, share khan etc) send you monthly demat statement. You can take the printout of the statement and submit.
This is perfectly valid document.

IDFC Infrastruture bonds are there
Its available in both physical as well as in demat form
Demat is more better as you can redeem it from any part of country within minimum time as its going to be traded on exchange after 5 yrs
Buy back should be selected because if there are no buyers after 5 years , you can exit

Hi Lalita and Pandit,

IDFC (http://lastbull.com/idfc-series-ii-infra-bonds/) and REC (http://lastbull.com/rec-infrastructure-bonds-fy-2010-%E2%80%93-2011/) infrastructure bond issues are open at present. I think we can see Power Finance Corp’s infra bonds issue soon.

I feel Demat would be a better option.

Pandit, why do you think buy back is a bad option? For tax saving you need to invest for a minimum of 5 years and after that if you sell them to the company (buy back from company’s perspective) you can invest your money in other high return investments.

I had applied for L&T INFRA bond on 02.11.2010 vide application no.18420314 thru Integrated Enterprises Ltd. but till date I have not rcvd the Bonds in physical form. The services are really deplorable, since I emailed the company & also contacted the IEP people. I think I have to tighten my stand to get the job done from L&T company.

Hi Kale,

It seems you purchased the infra bonds offline. Since you have demat account, you should have purchased online by logging into your demat account.

In case of offline transactions, they send the bond certificates to the address you provided at the time of purchase. Please contact the bank for details of tracking your purchase request.

Hi Suresh,

We are in no way related to L&T. We just provide information on infrastructure bonds issued by many companies.

How did you invest in the bonds? I mean, online or physical?

Have you checked the below page?

Hi Prama,

Yes, if you invest in infrastructure bonds you can get tax exemption on a maximum of Rs 20K this financial year too. But as per my knowledge infrastructure bonds are not available at present in the market. I will keep updating the site if I come across any.
